I'd love to get back to painting and drawing after a long period of... not drawing. And I had this idea about drawing the Jackyl from 13 Ghosts. But since I didn't dare to just start drawing the outlines, I came up with this!

( I think the Joker came out best. Lovelovelove Heath Ledger for this one. )

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Watercolor Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Printer
  • Water ô.Ô

Steps (4 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

First of all, get a picture. This can be your own, showing a friend, yourself, your lover, pet, whatever. Just make sure there's not too much black in it. I had that with my first pics and it didn't come out too great.

No, this particular picture is NOT my own. Its goolges. x)

  2. 2

Get your photo manipulation tool and desaturate the picture. Decrease the amout of grey so that you come out with something mostly black and white but still showing the details. This might be a little tricky.

Print the image, get your watercolours ready.

See now why you shouldn't use too dark pictures? There's nearly nothing to paint on. ^^
Plus, if you wanna saturate the black parts, depending on the ink your printer uses, the watercolour might pearl off...

  3. 3

I love the very pale, water intensive way with water colours. In preschool we learned to use just a little bit of water and to spin the brush in the colour untill we could see some little bubbles. Bullshit. Drown those colours! >_____<

You still have the original picture on your screen, don't you?

Using just a liiiiittle bit of colour allows you to recreate the colours much more realistic. Plus, you can smudge the wet colour if needed.

( photographing the results was a b*tch!!! -.- And I guess I spoiled it on Jack. I just didn't get the right colour for Hair, Skin and Hat )

You can of course mix colours.
Don't hide the fact that these are water colours, use its natural effects ( e.g. I could make the water behind Jack extremely vivid by just using different amounts of colour for each stroke ), leave some of the parts where the pigments bundle up more etc.

    Go crazy girls! :D
