Washi Style!
Having friends over for a sushi feast? Craft up these clever handmade chopstick cases. Some simple folds and a few decorative strips are all you need to add a little wow to the dinner table. Slide your favourite chopsticks inside, or elevate the basic disposable version with these cases.

Tip: If eating with chopsticks is not for you, it doesn’t mean you have to skip this project – why not fold some of these cases up and slip your regular cutlery inside? The cases will hold most knives and forks, but you may need to adjust the size to match your set.

    Step 1

With the front of the chopstick case facing away from you, glue the back flap in place. Fold the bottom 1 cm (1⁄2 in) of the case up, crease firmly and secure with tape.

Trim the paper to 16.5 x 21.5 cm (61⁄2 x 81⁄2 in). Follow the folding instructions on page 125. If desired, use a bone folder to make nice crisp creases. Once the chopstick case is folded, unfold the right half and decorate the top-left angle with a strip of tape. Refold the right half around the case.

Finally, decorate the chopstick case to your liking. Stripes running at the same angle as the case look particularly striking. Whether you add just a few strips or cover the whole case is entirely up to you.
