Instructions

  1. Print off and cut out the paper pattern. Check the placement of the eyes, you may need to adjust their location for your own eye spacing.

  2. Dismantle your cereal box. Using a marker, trace around the paper pattern for the mask and beak onto the shiny printed side of the cardboard. Cut out the pieces with a combination of scissors and razor knife (for the eyes).

  3. Using your paper pattern, mark the location of the scoring lines and using a razor knife and a ruler, cut partway through (on the shiny printed side) on the scoring lines. Gently bend on the scored lines.

  4. Paint the shiny printed side a solid color. When the backside has dried, paint the fronts.

  5. Glue the beak onto the mask using white glue. The top tabs on the beak fit behind the mask.

  6. Cut feathers from Tyvek. If you don't have Tyvek, heavy paper will work (it just won't hold up as well). I freehand cut mine, but included a pattern for the size you should be aiming for to get the same proportions.

  7. Glue the feathers to the back of the mask. I arranged mine on the table top, ran a continuous bead of glue around the ring of feathers and then laid the mask on top. I weighted it down with small objects while it was drying.

  8. Punch string holes and attach strings.
