I was looking at my circle nesting dies and thought I'd see if this would work- and it did!
I was looking at my circle nesting dies and thought I'd see if this would work- and it did!
I'm using Die-Mond Dies which I bought from Amazon.com ans a Sizzix Big Shot. The cardboard I'm using is from an old priority shipping box from the USPS.
Cut your cardboard to a size that will fit into your die cutting machine. Place two circles as seen in the picture. You can use a post it not to hold them in place if needed. The bigger the size difference between the inside circle and outside circle the longer the pompom "hairs" will be.
Cut 2 "doughnuts" of cardboard the same size.
If you don't have die you could just draw a doughnut shape and cut it out with a craft knife. Then trace the 1st doughnut to get the 2nd one. If you're as bad at drawing circles as me I would suggest tracing round things like a juice bottle cap for the middle and a container of oatmeal for the outside. You can use whatever you have on hand :)
Sandwich a piece of yarn between the circles. This will tie the pom pom together at the end.
Wrap yarn around the circles until all the card board is covered. The more yarn you use the fuller the pom pom will be.
Find the stings that are sandwiched and pull them off to the side. Cut the yarn all the way around the circle by putting the scissors in between the doughnut sandwich. Press down while your doing this to hold all the cut yarn in place.
Once all the yarn is cut take the sandwich strings and start a knot. Pull as tight as you can to squeeze all the yarn together.
Finish the knot and remove the card board. Then give your pom pom a haircut and a fluff :)
I also roll mine around in my hands like I'm making a ball out of play dough to get a nice fluffy, round shape. Then throw it to the cats :)
