A delicious twist on a classic food
Apples and caramelized onions set this grilled cheese apart from the rest. Insert Canadian stereotype here...but this sandwich just proves that everything really does taste better with maple syrup!
Caramelize the onions - in a pan cook the onions with oil until soft. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and a dash of balsamic vinegar and cook for about 5 more minutes.
Thinly slice 1/4 of a granny smith apple and slice your sharp cheddar cheese. Put 1/2 teaspoon of maple syrup on the inside of 2 slices of bread.
Put together your grilled cheese with the maple syrup sides facing toward the middle. Put your cheese first, apple slices layered next and the caramelized onions to top. Use butter to cook the grilled cheese evenly on both sides until lightly browned. Serve with chips and a pickle.
