About

I completely fell in love with these gorgeous little pincushions! I found them in a recent 'Mollie Makes' magazine and just had to share it with you. Like most of the projects I upload, its quite easy to adapt. For example you can change the style of the cactus (in the magazine they created a heart-shaped one) or add different shaped flowers. The one that I included on the top of my cactus was just simply attached using a brightly coloured pin.

You Will Need (7 things)

  • Fabric Scissors
  • Stuffing (this could be tissues, old socks or traditional wadding)
  • Green Felt
  • Brightly Coloured Pin(s)
  • Green Embroidery Thread (could be in a clashing colour)
  • Little Terracotta Pot(s)
  • Needle

Steps (4 steps, 45 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut out the template and pin it onto the fabric - you're going to want to cut out five sides.

  2. 2

Take two sides and blanket-stitch them together. Once this is done, take another side and stitch that to one of the sides on the cactus which hasn't been stitched. Repeat until you have a 'full' cactus (it should look like the one pictured left and below).

  3. 3

Now stuff your pincushion and squish him into his little pot.

Feel free to decorate your pot. You could decopage it, glue gun it with buttons and ribbons or paint it. But personally I think it looks cuter o'natural!

  4. 4

Time to Decorate! Cut flowers and hearts out of brightly coloured fabric and pin onto the top of your cactus. Ta da - your very own crafting buddy!
