An easy cabled headband- a perfect project for someone who's new to knitting!

  • Step 1

    Cast on 8 stitches

  • Step 2

    Row 1-7: Knit in garter stitch for about 7 rows or until the piece is about 4 cm long

  • Step 3

    On the next row on the wrong side, increase to 16 stitches by knitting in the front and back of each stitch (We'll call this row 1).

  • Step 4

    Knit the next row (row 2).

  • Step 5

    On rows 3, 5 and 7, knit 4, purl 8, knit 4.

  • Step 6

    On rows 4 and 6, knit.

  • Step 7

    On row 8, knit four, then slip four stitches onto the cable needle and hold them in the front of the work. Knit four, then knit the four stitches from the cable needle. Knit the remaining 4 stitches.

  • Step 8

    Continue row 1-8 until the headband reaches almost around your head (or about 45 centimetres), making sure to replace the increase row with the knit 4, purl 8, knit 4 used on other wrong-side rows.

  • Step 9

    Decrease on the next row by knitting two together all across the row. You should end up with 8 stitches.

  • Step 10

    Knit in garter stitch until it fits around your head.

  • Step 11

    Cast off!
