Brigid Yarn Dolly for Imbolc
She is very easy to make.
Red, white and green yarn.Thickness of yarn determines the number of strands needed.
I used a dark red, forest green and ivory shade.
Scissors
hard back book
smaller book
Pic 2: I used 50 strands around a hard back book for the main body. The ends are tied off at the bottom. 35 strands of red for the hair, adding a couple for good measure, about 16 strands for the arms. Always good to do a couple of extra. You'll need some extra pieces about 10 inches long for tie offs. The thickness of the yarn determines the number of strands.
Pic 3: Tie the top and bottom with another piece of yarn. I suggest using a hardback book for the main body because of the small gap. Be careful sliding it off the book.
Pic 4: Tie off the head with a tight knot.
Double wrap all the knots before pulling them tight so they don't slip.
Pic 5: Braid the arms and tie them off. Cut off the ends, leaving 1-1.5" From tip to tip this is about 9 inches after braiding
Pic 6: Insert the arms into the gap between front & back.
Pic 7: Tie the waist - double-wrap the knot so it doesn't slip.
Pics 8-12: After the first time around creating the first X , you'll want to make a full rotation around the waist each time, so that the crosses are woven on the front.
Pic 14: After finishing, it will need adjusting. You can push them a little higher up on the shoulders and poof out the body a bit from behind to give her breast shapes to the sides of the X.
Pics 15-16: Fold the red hair in half and tie it onto the head with one of the long red strands.
Pic 17: You'll need to even up the ends & do some adjustments. I added a couple of braids also. Gently stroking her strands, will slowly relax the yarn (and you!) When you're done, anoint her with herbs or oils for Imbolc. I suggest holding her during some form of meditation.

Altar tip: If you're going to have her on your altar, please be very careful with the open flame. Not only is yarn flammable, but synthetic fibers can fuse to your skin if melted.
