I actually crocheted the ruffles onto the cap. So you single crochet the first row through the loops of the hat. Then you increase back over each stitch until you get the ruffle effect.

I went to the American Book Center today so I could buy the magazine for the pattern, but instead of the american price (8 dollars) it was 10 euros! (12 dollars!!) So I didn't buy it Btw, did you have to sew the ruffles on or through front loops?

It was pretty easy. It's a simple cap of rounds and then you single crochet the brain ruffles on top of the cap and then just increase several rows to create the ruffling effect.
