I use waxed dental floss for my jewelry since it's cheap, strong, and has a nice minty smell.
Use a seed bead, pulling the tread through in opposite directions. Put 2 of the 4 mm beads on one side, and a 6 mm on the other. Then use a seed bead again pulling the thread through in opposite directions. Just repeat this until you get the length you want.
