I made this for a friend's recent baby girl's birth. I wanted something special for both the mother and the new life. I came up with this heart shaped Blessing Quilt with hand embroidered Blessings. I had never seen or heard of a blessing blanket or quilt before but I wanted to do something special.

Piece 1 - embroidered with peaceful thoughts. It reads: "Golden slumbers kiss your eyes "Smiles awake when you arise "Sleep pretty darling do not cry "And I will sing you a lullaby."
Piece 2 - embroidered with baby's name and birth
Piece 3 - embroidered with my own blessing
Piece 4 - embroidered with Irish Baby Blessing It reads: "May all blessings of our Lord touch your life today. "May He send his little angels to protect you on your way. "Such a miraulacous gift sent from above. "Someone so precious to cherish and love. "ay sunshine and moonbeams dance over your head. "As you quietly slumber in your bed. "May good luck be with you wherever you go. "And your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow. "-Irish Baby Blessing-"
Piece 5 - embroidered with Jewish Blessing It reads: "In every birth, blessed is the wonder. "In every creation, blessed in the new beginning. "In every child, blessed is the life. "In every Hope, blessed is the potential. "In every transition, blessed is the beginning. "In every existence blessed are the possibilities. "In every love, blessed are the tears. "In every life bless is the love. "-Jewish Blessing-"
Sew five pieces together.
Embellish more.
Fit front to back - trim as needed (I used a pink and white checked flannel). Sine I wanted to leave raw edges I placed and pinned wrong sides together.
Sew all around edges leaving an even space all around the edge.
Using light colored thread I then sewed swirls all across the heart shaped quilt to secure the front to the back.
Fray edges.
Done!
