what's better than zombie bird houses?
I have a ton of bird houses hangin out at my house. I wanted to make one that wasn't a "normally" decorated one. You know the ones... one stroke flowers and country hearts. I was thinking something crazy... like something bird brained. Then lightning struck... not bird brained... bird BRAINZ!

  • How to make a bird house. Bird Brainz - Step 1
    Step 1

Start with a very basic, plain run of the mill bird house. There's a crrrazy version just waiting to come out. Be sure not to let any evil kitties get near it though, they tend to distract you from everything you're doing.

I don't have a picture of myself sanding the house but i highly recommend it. It can get really frustration when you're putting your base coat on and there's little wood pieces making your house look like it has a rash.

Get a simple base coat on the house. It's much easier to do this house if you have a little idea of what doodles you want on there. Then you can look at it in steps, base coat, line, birds and hearts, and stitch marks is how i did this house.

When you're doing the lines, one of the things that i love is it's zombie stitches that the birds are sitting on. Therefore they don't need to be straight, the same thickness, or make any sense.

This is a closer picture of one of the birds i did and a heart, just incase you need a little help drawing it out. I encourage you to try your own though. Have fun, doodle up your own little birds and even pick different colors!

When i did the birds, it was a black bird, then when that dried I added green paint for the stitches and a red dot for the eye. I was gonna put red on the beak also but i just couldn't get it to look good. The nice thing about craft paint is if everything else is dry and you take a wet cloth and wipe off where you just painted... it usually comes off with little to no hassle.

So this is one angle of my final project. Hangin out on the porch outside my apartment waiting for that bird that's goth enough to live there (heehee). I ended up putting a cup hook in the top to try and hang it. My friends mom also suggested nailing it to one of the ledges or making sure it's somewhere secure because birds will move it alot when they land. You don't have to though, you cound throw some fake feathers on it (with a little red paint) and some of those fake birds from the floral section of the craft store (with sharpie stitches of course) and say it's a home for your new pet zombird. It's all up to you. The only thing i advise you of is...
