Billie Hat

This is a fun, tomboyish hat, just like its name, with strong geometric shapes. The name Billie means resolute protection, and this warm, cozy hat will protect your head in wintery weather. I discovered this stitch pattern in one of my Japanese stitch dictionaries. The cables buried in the lace stitches caught my eye—they are almost unseen, but they add nice directional changes. I rearranged the stitch pattern to work for a hat, beginning with mostly lace stitches, gradually moving into mostly cable stitches, and then ending in a fun rounded point. I used Shalimar Breathless DK, a wonderful superwash blend of merino, cashmere, and silk. It is very soft while retaining good stitch definition, making it a perfect choice for this pretty lace and cable hat. FINISHED SIZE About 18 ½" (47 cm) circumference and 9" (23 cm) tall. GAUGE 28 sts and 30 rnds = 4" (10 cm) in chart patt, blocked.
