I like drinks like this because they flirt the line really well between “man drinks” and “girly” drinks. It’s not too sweet but also not too dry with no after burn. It’s got a peasant citrus aroma that’s wonderfully accented by both the triple sec and the cognac. In theory you could switch out the rum for something else like bourbon, but I wouldn’t because that would kill the tropical feel of the drink. If you were going to do that I would recommend serving it in a highball glass more like an old fashioned.
