If you’re bored with garter stitch, try this woven stitch. It’s really easy and quick to knit. When blocked (or steam ironed), the fabric lies flat with an interesting texture on both sides. The fabric may also be wrapped around and seamed in the back for a sturdy, double-sided, super-skinny tie. The indigo-dyed cotton gives the project a 1960s hippie vibe, with the color fading through time like a pair of good blue jeans. (Beware: If tied around a light-colored fabric, indigo may leave a stain. With repeated washings, there should be less of a tendency for the indigo color to transfer.) It’s reminiscent of a necktie that a voguish character might wear in a vintage Italian film. This is good knitting, so I’ve named it Bene (Italian for “well done”). Salute! To make tie wider or narrower, cast on more or fewer stitches, making sure that you are casting on an odd number of stitches.
