I needed a new white blouse and had a bed sheet that didn't fit my bed. So, I made this. You don't have to use a bed sheet of course. About 1.5 to 2 yards of fabric will do you just fine. I also used elastic from a tank top so this project didn't cost me a dime. For this how to, I used a combination of paint illustrations and real photos. If you have any questions on any of these steps, feel free to message me and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Instructions

  1. Small bust hip measure 1313109259

-You will need to measure your bust at the fullest part and divide that in half. If you want your blouse to fall below your hips (like a tunic), you will need to measure your hips and use the larger of the two measurements. Add 2" to that measurement.

  2. Small length 1313109269

-To get the length of your top you need to measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want the blouse to stop. Add 2 inches to this as well. Now cut two rectangles equal to these measurements. These are your bodice pieces

  3. For your sleeve pieces you will need to measure the circumference of your arm. This gives you your sleeve width. Add about 4" to that measurement. For your sleeve length you want to measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want your sleeve to stop. An easier way to do this is to measure a top you have that has a good sleeve length. Cut these rectangles out and set aside

  4. Small top 1 1313109346

Grab your bodice pieces... With the rectangles folded in half, measure 3" in from the raw edge and 7" down. Pencil in a line to connect these two points (the red dots). These are your armscyes. -Measure down 2" from the top on the folded side and pencil a line from this point to the first point drawn at the top (as illustrated) This is your neckline. Curve these straight lines (the blue line) Cut along the line to get your bodice pieces

  5. Small 100 4372 1313113351

-With your bodice pieces still folded in half, place your sleeve pieces under your bodice pieces and line them up with the raw edges. -Trace curves of the bodice onto the sleeve pieces Cut the sleeves out

  6. Small top 4 1313113685

You should have two large bodice pieces and two small sleeve pieces as illustrated.

  7. Small 100 4374 1313114116

Let's put it all together... Take one of the bodice pieces and one of the sleeve pieces and place them right sides together. Pin them together along the curve as illustrated. Sew Do the same with the other sleeve piece. Grab the second bodice piece. Pin and sew it as well

  8. Small 100 4376 1313114511

Pin the blouse together along the sides and sew. (As illustrated)

  9. Small 100 4398 1313114798

Let's work on the neckline... Now you have to make the casing for the elastic Fold and press the neck line 1/4"

  10. Small 100 4406 1313114980

Fold it over one more time 1/2" and pin. Sew this part down. Be careful to sew as close to the edge as possible leaving room for the elastic. Do not stitch all the way around. Be sure to leave a small opening.

  11. Small 100 4410 1313115218

Add elastic... Put a safety pin on the end of your elastic and thread it through the opening. Pull it through until you get the desired neckline height.

  12. Small 100 4413 1313115327

Cut the elastic, sew the ends together, and tuck it into the opening. Close the opening.

  13. Hem the sleeves and bottom (if necessary) and you're done. You can add elastic to the sleeves by following steps 9 thru 11 or leave them as is. You can also add elastic to the waist.
