Tedious, but not difficult.
I folded a flat full size bed sheet in half. I measured from shoulder to elbow and from elbow to wrist. This is where I would add the straps. I traced a bat wing pattern with tailor's chalk. Then I sewed the edges down leaving the top edge open. I marked channels for the cable ties going from the top edge to a point at the bottom. These would be the spines in the bat wing. I straight stitched channels and inserted the cable ties trimming to fit at the top. I made straps for my shoulders and wrists out of leftover fabric from cutting out the wing shape. Then sewed the top edge shut. Not only do they look like bat wings when open, they fold on themselves when down. I took the wrist straps off when sitting and occasionally when standing. My fiance was a strawberry. I was a fruit bat :)
