Description

The "Ung Drill" is a popular IKEA frame, but we wanted it to be a little more unique. We turned ours into a LEGO minifigure display frame.

Instructions

  1. Small diy lego frame spray paint 203x300

Start by spray painting your frame. We went with a color similar to our wall color, but a few shades deeper. We wanted it neutral so that the LEGO's popped. While the paint is drying, wrap the cardboard frame back in fabric. Alternatively, you could paint the back, or tape wrapping paper to it.

  2. Small diy lego frame template 200x300

We traced the glass onto a piece of cardboard to use as a template for the Minifigure placement. Spacing everything evenly with a ruler, we marked where we wanted the LEGO base blocks (2×4) to be glued. OPTIONAL: We put a layer of clear contact paper over the glass. Two reasons: First, so that if we eventually want to remove the LEGO blocks, theoretically the contact paper would just peel off, leaving the glass unharmed. Second, so that it gave a vintage "frosted" effect to the glass.

  3. Small diy lego frame 202x300

Keeping your glass on the cardboard template (to know where to glue), attach LEGO blocks to the glass. We recommend GOOP or E6000 style industrial glue.

  4. Small lego frame 1

Now just choose your favorite LEGO minifigures to display, and hang the frame on the wall. We like to change the figures out about once a month.
