Instructions

  1. Head Use black yarn to make 1 Basic Head Basic Head Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6}. Round 2: [Inc] around {12}. Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {18}. Round 4: [Inc, sc 2] around {24}. Round 5: [Inc, sc 3] around {30}. Round 6: [Inc, sc 4] around {36}. Round 7: [Inc, sc 5] around {42}. Rounds 8–12: Sc around {42}. Round 13: [Inv dec, sc 5] around {36}. Round 14: [Inv dec, sc 4] around {30}. Round 15: [Inv dec, sc 3] around {24}. Round 16: [Inv dec, sc 2] around {18}. Stuff. Round 17: [Inv dec, sc 1] around {12}. Round 18: [Inv dec] around {6}. Fasten off and weave in ends.

  2. Body Use black yarn to make 1 Basic Body. Basic Body Round 1: Sc 6 in magic ring {6}. Round 2: [Inc] around {12}. Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {18}. Round 4: [Inc, sc 2] around {24}. Rounds 5–9: Sc around {24}. Round 10: [Inv dec, sc 2] around {18}. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing. Stuff.

  3. Arms Use black yarn to make 2 Basic Arms. Basic Arm Round 1: Sc 7 in magic ring {7}. Rounds 2–5: Sc around {7}. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing. Flatten.

  4. Feet Make 2 with yellow yarn. Round 1: Sc 3 in magic ring {3}. Round 2: [Inc] around {6}. Rounds 3–4: Sc around {6}. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing. Flatten piece.

  5. Beak Use yellow embroidery floss and 1.75-mm hook. Round 1: Sc 3 in magic ring {3}. Round 2: [Inc] around {6}. Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {9}. Fasten off. Flatten. Whipstitch to close the open end. Leave a long tail for sewing.

  6. Tummy Use white yarn. Round 1: Sc 5 in magic ring {5}. Round 2: [Inc] around {10}. Rounds 3–5: Sc around {10}. Fasten off. Flatten. Whipstitch to close the open end. Leave a long tail for sewing.

  7. Spikes Make 4 with black yarn. Round 1: Sc 3 in magic ring {3}. Round 2: [Inc] around {6}. Round 3: [Inc, sc 1] around {9}. Rounds 4–5: Sc around {9}. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing. Flatten.

  8. Tail Use black yarn. Round 1: Sc 3 in magic ring {3}. Round 2: [Inc] around {6}. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.

  9. Details • Stitch beak onto the center of the head below Round 9. With black embroidery floss, sew an upside-down V across the middle. • To make eyes, cut white felt into a small, thin rectangle. Round the corners and cut the rectangle in half. You should have 2 U shapes. Snip a tiny hole near the top-right corner of each felt piece and pop a black brad in each hole. Glue eyes onto the head below Round 8, about 3 stitches apart. • Glue pink brads onto cheeks.

  10. Assembly • Stitch head and body together. • Stitch arms onto the sides of the body. Gently squeeze the ends to give them a pointy look. • Stitch tummy, feet, and tail onto body. • Spread spikes on top of the head and stitch in place.
