These are great when you'd love to make a baby quilt but you don't have the time/skills. These little baby burp cloths can also be used as fabric diapers if the mother chooses. Be sure to use the high quality tri-fold diapers because whether the mom uses these as burp cloths or diapers, they'll be washed a lot.

Description

These are great when you'd love to make a baby quilt but you don't have the time/skills. These little baby burp cloths can also be used as fabric diapers if the mother chooses. Be sure to use the high quality tri-fold diapers because whether the mom uses these as burp cloths or diapers, they'll be washed a lot.

Instructions

  1. Small 4085

Cut 5 fabric scraps into 4.5" x 6.5" inch pieces. Each piece could be different or it could be in an alternating pattern like this. Also, press the diaper.

  2. Small 4086

    Pin two adjacent pieces together.

  3. Small 4087

Sew along the edges with a 1/4" seam.

  4. Small 4088

    Press the seams open.

  5. Small 4089

Repeat with the rest of the pieces. Sew and press.

  6. Small 4090

Press the long edges under 1/4".

  7. Small 4091

Pin the fabric to the center of the diaper.

  8. Small 4092

Fold under the ends of the fabric so that they are even with the ends of the diaper.

  9. Small 4093

Zig zag the fabric to the diaper along all four edges. The center line of the foot should be lined up above where the diaper meets the fabric so that the zig zag evenly catches both the diaper and the fabric. On the ends, you have to zig zag entirely on the fabric but do so as close as you can to the edge.

  10. Small 4094

Use a decorative or zig zag stitch to quilt the fabric seams.

  11. Small 4097

Make a pack of these and fold the diapers in thirds both ways and stack them. Wrap a ribbon around them and they look very pretty when you give them to the lucky mommy. Note: in this photo, I have a plain burp cloth on top. This was made from one piece of fabric instead of quilted like the tutorial. This is quicker but doesn't look as cute and requires bigger pieces of fabric too.

  12. Small 4098

Alternative: Here I used 2.5" x 6.5" inch pieces (nine total). I also used a piece of black lace to cover the diaper/fabric seam instead of the zig zag (I took the photo before I sewed it down, sorry about the pins).
