You Will Need (7 things)

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Sellotape
  • Ribbon
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Pencil
  • Roll of Black Paper

Steps (8 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut out two large hearts from cardboard and then enough cardboard strips to go round the edge of your heart.

Make sure the hearts are the same size and the strips are all the same width

  2. 2

Take one of your hearts and glue the edging round the outside of the heart, leaving a flap unglued so that you can fill your piñata later.

  3. 3

Glue round the other side of the edge and stick your other heart on top

  4. 4

Seal the parts where your edging meet - this can be with your glue or just sellotape.

REMEMBER TO LEAVE THAT FLAT OPEN!

  5. 5

Cover the heart in black paper - doesn't need to be perfect as you will be covering most of it

  6. 6

Cut lots of strips of black paper. The width depends on how long you want your feathers to be on the heart.

This is the time consuming part - take each of these strips and feather them, by cutting 3/4 of the way into the paper, all the way along the length

Starting at the bottom corner of your heart - Cut the strips to fit the piece of heart you are on and then sellotape the uncut part of the strip to the heart, leaving the paper to curl out the way (which happens naturally if you buy a big role of black paper)

Take your next piece and secure it slightly further up the heart so that it covers the tape from the one before and forms a layered effect

Repeat the process until you have covered the heart.

  7. 7

Cut two holes in the top of your heart and put ribbon through them

Then reach through the flap in your heart to pull them out and tie at the bottom securely, before pulling it back out again on the other side to form a loop

  8. 8

Fill your piñata with lots of goodies and biodegradable confetti before sealing the flap with your glue

Then all that's left to do is hang it up in a large open area before the fun begins!
