Alice in Wonderland Chair DIY

About

Turn any thrift store chair into an Alice in Wonderland Chair with just a little paint and fabric. This is a terrific way to make mismatched chairs work together! Take your time, have fun and go crazy with pattern and color. I got this chair for $5 dollars at a thrift store. You can always check out my Youtube channel for a how-to video showing the entire project!

You Will Need (6 things)

  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • White Fabric
  • Screwdriver
  • Staple Gun
  • Ruler

Steps (4 steps, 300 minutes)

  1. 1

    Remove the seat cushion
Draw lines ever 1" or so across the top of the chair
Draw a harlequin pattern along the side supports
    Start filling in with paint
I used black and white for the stripes and blue and white for the diamonds

  2. 2

    Paint the back red
Finish painting the diamonds in the harlequin pattern
    Add polkadots to the red
Make more of the harlequin pattern in different colors on the leg

  3. 3

With newspaper, make a pattern for the center support of your chair
Cut out that pattern in fabric
Decoupage the fabric to the back of the chair with a paintbrush and Minwax Polycrylic

  4. 4

Add metallic gold highlights with a metallic gold Krylon Shortcut paint pen
Staple the fabric around the cushion of the chair
Screw the cushion back in place and you're done!
