I started with a 55 gal. fish tank that was free from a friend of a friend. Grabbed some plastic cups that were left over from a party and cut a peas size hole in the bottom of each cup. Rocks were put in, then fresh dirt and the seeds. The coffee can were domes the same way, the only difference is they sit on a tray and will be screwed to a wooden fence right outside our back door. That way we have fresh herbs all summer for cooking with plenty more for dehydrating to use all winter. The plastic cups were then set on recycled plastic cutting boards that sit on plastic gutter covers. The water was filler to about 3/4" from the bottom of the cups. I add a little sea kelp, once a month, to the water. It turned the water kind of brown but the plants love it. The ID tags are just a cut up milk jug written on with a sharpie. Can't wait for my little plants to start going. The outside portion of our garden is made from free pallets. Since it was 48deg. outside today my husband started building the tiered garden in our little backyard. The last picture is what we are working on for the final planting, with more veggies added. We plan on draping plastic in between the slats to keep everything straight and in its own dirt.
