Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

Medium photo me for books

Hi there my name is Monica Russel and I run a small knitting business called The Knitknacks . I design all my own knitting patterns and have written six books of knitting patterns. I have a website www.theknitknacks .co.uk where I sell my patterns, books yarns and kits. My patterns feature regularly in magazines. My business stems from a love of knitting and as well as design work I teach workshops at some of the knitting shows and privately and am always interested in expanding these.

Tell us a bit about the book?

In this book there are many projects where you can use your knitting skills. Patterns feature fair isle patterns, cable patterns, lace patterns and simple stocking stitch patterns so whether you have just mastered basic knitting skills or want to be a bit more adventurous there are projects for you.

What was the inspiration behind it?

Search Press commissioned me to do the book. My ideas come from nature, art and the yarns themselves.

Which is your favourite project?

I really love the lace patterns

What is your craft space like?

I have a big room with all my yarns which is great. I work at home, in cafes , at friends and on my travels.

Have you always been creative?

Yes I am a trained teacher and Art Therapist and enjoy many crafts and visiting art galleries.

When did you first start crafting?

I started crafting as a child and made a needle case at school out of elt which my son has to this day.

Who are your crafty heroes?

I love Kaffe Fassett.

Where do you find inspiration?

Art, nature, travelling and textiles.

What's next for you?

A stall at The Knitting and Stitching show and a new book for search Press. I am also currently designing a bay jumper for Love Knitting as their Christmas knit a long.
