Meet the Author
Hey there, can you introduce yourself?
I´m 46 years. I studied Industrial Design in Berlin at the University of art.
Since 2001 I live in a small town in the northern of Germany with my husband, my two daughters, our dog an 4 chickens.
After Studies I worked as a digital interface designer . But I missed to work by head AND hand ;).
In my free time I have always done something creative. So in 2009 I decided to found my on label, Capstatt - The Workshop for Handmade Design.
Tell us a bit about the book?
I had this idea about the modular principle. And during the whole work on this book, I was always fascinate that it works so easy. Each cuddly animal is knitted in one piece using the same basic pattern, but for each animal I designed an individual face. It was wonderful seeing how it becomes a mouse or a lion or a zebra.
What was the inspiration behind it?
My inspiration are often my two daugthers. The idea for the little animals was that they become a little friend that can sit next to them during a class test.
Which is your favourite project?
My favorites are two of the animals. The mouse because it was the first one. And the zebra. I love the nose.
What is your craft space like?
I have the great fortune to have a nice, bright craft space in my house, with lots of drawers full of wool and other things to be creative.
Trough the patio door I can step directly in my garden, in good weather I sit and knit outside.
Have you always been creative?
Yes, I have been always creative: knitting, painting, working with paper, sewing also working in the garden or cooking could be creative work. For me, a day without being creative, is a bad day.
When did you first start crafting?
I was about 8 years, my mother taught me knitting. My first project was a sweater, but it becomes a really big blue mohair tent ;)
Who are your crafty heroes?
I love the works of Marianne Isager. She is a danish designer. She makes wonderful knittings.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere and anytime. When I go for a new project, it comes to my mind no matter where I am. It can happen during a walk in the forest or while shopping in a mall.
What's next for you?
I am working on a new book. It will be published in summer 2014. This project is totally different from the cuddly animals.
