Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

Medium kat roberts

My name is Kat Roberts. I am an artist, teacher, and craft book writer living in Brooklyn, NY

Tell us a bit about the book?

Crafting for Cat Ladies is a collection of feline-themed craft projects, divided into the themes of accessories, fashion, home and entertaining.

What was the inspiration behind it?

I got the idea for this book when I was packing for a short vacation with my girlfriends. Just as I was about to zip up my suitcase I realized that I had packed no fewer than 6 garments with some kind of cat iconography. I thought it was pretty funny that I felt I needed so many cat items with me for so short a trip, but these were all clothes that made me happy, so it made sense that I would want them with me for such a fun trip. I really wanted to make a book with this same cheerful, fun-loving spirit.

Which is your favourite project?

Hands down, my favorite project is the “Persian Cat Wrap Skirt.” It puts me in a good mood every time I see it.

What is your craft space like?

I have a little desk in my bedroom where most of my writing takes place. Unfortunately for my family, my crafting usually starts at the desk, but ultimately spreads to the rest of the apartment.

Have you always been creative?

Yes.

When did you first start crafting?

I’ve been crafting since I was a child. I was very lucky to have a mom who kept our house stocked with plenty of art supplies for my brothers and me.

Who are your crafty heroes?

I have tons of crafty heroes! At the moment I’m really enjoying the work of Janet Mazorie, Yasuko Endo, and Lucinda Ganderton.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere.

What's next for you?

I’m currently working on DIY for Dog Lovers, the canine themed follow up to Crafting for Cat Ladies!
