Embroidery/cross stitch is fun, imo. I like to trace my favorite drawings from people by holding 28 count fabric over the drawing over a window and tracing in pencil and then embroider onto that. You really only need to know like, back stitch for that, which makes it really quick/easy to learn.

Polymer clay is also cheap, and you can make like, little sculptures and jewelry stuff with it. Also, I made tees with this tutorial a bunch of times when I first got into craftiness more: http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/3674467.html

If you're looking for a yarny type craft, I'd go with knitting instead of crocheting, as you can do more with it and crocheting looks hella '70s, imo (shudder). Both are pretty fun, though.

And kitty toys are always fun to make. Then you can die alone watching your cats play with them, which is so worth it.

Modelling clay is great to work with and wouldn't cost lots to get the basic materials. Some are air dry and some are cooked. Try looking at household containers in a different way, there are loads of useful materials that end up in the bin. Check out Jonathan's creations....here's one of my favourites....

Freezer paper stencilling is easy, cheap if you buy garments to stencil on from thrift/charity stores. Also you can make kick-ass tees that are not in the least girlieHappy
There are some cool stencilling sites with free downloads too.

There's always hemp jewelry. You can make any kind of jewelry piece using hemp and beads, and it can be as masculine as you want.
Also, hemp comes in a lot of colors, so if you don't like the natural beige color you can get black, red, blue, etc.

If you're into sewing, you can make ties, unique shirts... pretty much anything.

A really cheap, easy craft to take up is embroidery. All you really need is the thread and the needle, plus something you wear that you want to add your own personal touch to.

You could take up book making, its relaxing to me, and when you get done you have a nice new journal/book. You could use practically anything sturdy as a cover, you could even use cereal boxs. Ive used a old desktop calender board cut it up and I got 3 books out of it. Poptab art is really something I love the ideas of the armor on here, thats so wicked Happy Time consuming but I know it looks awesome on the field. Theres so many things you can do/make/create, never limit yourself. Anything handmade says alot, handmade comes from the heart, have fun Happy
