I havve a plain black bag.

I got it at goodwill a long time ago...and decided im gonna either emiborder (cant spell) or just put random crap on it.

bleach pen ftw. most blacks bleach to this awesome red colour. I have an eyepatch I bleached crossbones into and I also bleached circuit traces into my facemask.

add cute keychains to the zippers or any form of attachment that will let you do this and then get some paint and paint your favorite thingamajis on it ex. since its a black bag id paint jack skellington and his dog zero from nightmare before christmas Happy oops now ill have to try that ahah

Is the bag cloth or a leatherlike material?
If it's cloth, you can easily sew beads to it, almost like embroidery except more textured. You could stencil it, too, using freezer paper and fabric paint.
If you have any iron-on patches, you could stick those on it, too.

I used to always buy plain bags just to deck them out and make them look cool. If you need a pocket on the outside of it, find a scrap of contrasting fabric you really like and make a pocket. Though that might not help if it's *that* small.
