Painting on Leather

My boyfriend is in need of a new wallet so I thought I'd buy him a nice one for Christmas. The problem is he's 28 and refuses to use any wallet that isn't Nightmare Before Christmas and the NBC wallets at Spencers and Hot Topic are pretty blah! So I thought I'd buy a leather wallet and paint Jack Skellington on it- this shouldn't be a huge issue with me as I actually am a fair hand at painting.

BUT I haven't ever really worked with leather before and was wondering if anyone had any advice for him when it comes to painting. Is there a particular type of paint I should be using? I was just going to use white acrylic on black leather, is that right or should I use a medium? Suggestions are so welcome right now!

Regular acrylic paint will flake and peel off something that gets used as much as a wallet, you're gonna need a paint formulated for leather that will flex a bit.

That's what I thought. I might have to hit up the leather store by my house to see what they suggest I use.
