Im going to make an alice in wonderland costume. Anyone got a picture or design for a small apron-ish thing and any ideas for the top half of the dress?? Instead of white im going to use black because thats just so much more awesome Any help is appreciated.
If you can hold out for a couple of days, I'm going to post an apron/pinny tutorial along with some other stuff as well - I'm making a doll costume (which will then be covered in fake blood and used to scare small children). How desperately do you need to make it? (I can post it quick/over the weekend if you need me to)
As for ideas for the top half, you could always do a decorative collar or something, there's a really cute ruffled one [http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/ruffled-collar] that's been featured on this site recently. Alternatively, you could do a proper apron with a top and bottom part and a halterneck-style strap at the top and ties at the waist (like a cooking apron but edged in lace and much cuter ^^). If you need help working out a pattern for it I'd love to help (big costume fan, I am). Your costume sounds epic already though, and you can never go wrong with lace, especially if it's red
You ought to also check out the Grimm Fairy Tales/Return to Wonderland comics characters, Alice and Calie...one in blue, one in black, the former is the original Alice, but has gone crazy from the effed up stuff she saw in 'Wonderland', Calie is her daughter.
Louise thank you so much this is my first costume ever so that means alot !! your ideas sound amazing and i cant wait for the how to. i dont need it urgently but i just like mapping everything out in my head before i get started (silly perfectionist genes) Id love some help working out a pattern i was going to make a simple as tutu for the bottom but now im rethinking that X.X As i said this is my first costume so any experience will be sooo helpful ( i keep having ideas then bout 2 hours later working out that they dont fit with the alice in wonderland thing at all XD)
Yea sparrow im trying to read up as much as i can on Alice and Alice fanfics etc... im getting good ideas for accessories but im not sure how easy it will be to tel that im alice, thats my biggest problem EEEE scary.
I wont be at home for the next two weeks so no hurry on the how to but you can be sure that whenever i can access a pc ill be trolling COAK (im kinda obsessed) im def going to make a classic black bow headband, thats my only "locked in" item XD.
Emily, you sound far, far too much like me - perfectionism for the win! I could also help with the tutu I think - the simplest way would probably be to get some ballet net or tulle (less scratchy), gather it using a long stitch on the sewing machine/hand basting and sew it to a piece of elastic for a waistband (like the 'rave tutus' that everyone seems to have over here at the moment). I'll be trying this one out as part of the doll costume so I'll let you know if it actually works. Also, I have seen tutorials for actual fabric petticoats on the web - I'll pop a link at the bottom, but it looks a bit complicated (mainly the maths bit)
P.S. Don't worry, I'm obsessed with this site too - I've been lurking for a while, but I've only just got an account since my exams are over and I actually have time to make stuff
Yea i read that site and it does seem a bit math intensive X< i do enough of that at high school!! yea i think ill probly either sew it onto elasic straight out OR i could cut it up n do what they do on here n tie a whole lot of strips on to some elastic. i think this might be less bulky around the waist/hips. Meh depends on the top .... thats the bit im totally clueless about lol i wont have much time soon (i leave for Japan this time tomoz ) but ill be thinking bout it lawl. let me know what you come up with.
