Black & White Dance help

So, at school we're having a black & white dance and I want to make a dress out of an old lady dress. I dont have that dress yet and Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what it could look like. Im a bigger girl, so I need a shape that will flatter me. Also any other suggestions anyone has for accessories, make up, shoes or whatever, They'll be very muchly appreciated.

Burda Style has tons of ideas and patterns. They range from like $5 to free. And they are really good patterns. Hope that helps.

Try using a design with a 'Y' shaped front as it will bring your waist in. An 'A' line skirt piece is also flattering for a fuller figure. In keeping with the black and white theme you could make a feather fascinator and/or add a white flower to your side waist with ribbons hanging. You could use a applique from one shoulder, curved across one bust to outer waist and down the length of the dress. It will add height and break up the black. Make sure it follows your curves and flows in a natural way. hope this helps as it's a bit difficult to explain in words. I'm off to see if I can find a picture Happy

Hmm..I'm thinking nostalgic...like, silent films. Make a 20's or 30's inspired dress then do your hair and make up like the silent films girls did in their day. Just use black lipstick and gray eyeshadows.

Google Image "silent films".

i always think that halter style necklines are very flattering on a plus size gal (and i am plus sized myself!) stay away from strapless and anything that cuts you off mid calf! also for shoes wear one with no strap around the ankles. basically i always try to elongate everything and straps on the ankles or dress cut at mid calf kinds chops you up.
