I need some help (Obviously) XD

Hey guys,
I am most defenitly new to sewing (so much so that I haven't ever sewn unless latch-hook counts...) ^___^'
Sooooo, I was wondering if any of you know any books to give me the basics and how to use all of the tools well!
Books with enough info to allow me to know how to sufficiently read sewing patterns, know how to use the tools, and such. (From what patterns I've seen on the site so far they kinda confuse me.. ) Haha. So just recommend a really good books on sweing, knitting, crochet, and such please.
Thank you! <3

hey,

im kind of a self-taught/taught by mom seamstress, so i cant help with books and such. however, i can say that for me, its generally a good idea to start small (hemming something flat, making a pillow) and then moving onto the bigger things. also, take things a bit at a time; dont let yourself get overwhelmed!

good luck, and sorry i couldnt be of more help. Happy

hey,

At my local library they have a section called 'crafts' that's where I found books that helped me a lot. I can't really give you titles, because all these books were Dutch, but I do suggest you go to your library. I'm sure they've got books on the subject there and if you can't find them, the librarians are always very helpful.

Hope this helps.

The local library is a good idea as I've got loads of good stuff from there too. Also look around online, even you tube. When I was learning to crochet someone on here pointed me towards some you tube tutorial and they were really good. I was surprised as it hadn't occurred to me to look here.

try this site:
http://whatthecraft.com/
they have basics and what tools you need to get started etc.
i don't know where you are located but you can try your local crafts store (Joanne's in the US) they have classes you can sign up for or maybe even a person that works there would show you some basics...

good luck! Happy

start with a tote bag or something like that. with straight lines, and all the hemming done flat, and really only 2 seams that are necessary-that's a really good beginner project. i love making totes myself since they're very easy to make and personify.

There are also lots of magazines about. Some are more expensive than others and sometimes they have free patterns on. Before you throw any old clothes away take them apart to see the pattern shapes and how they are made.

Check out '!!!!!!Sewing Help!!!!!!' on the Chit Chat board as other members of CO&K have post links for tutorials and book references.

My personal favourite is Dianne Rupp's for the price you get 8 free patterns. So simple and great directions.
