Cleaning an Iron without Injury . . .

My dumb self melted felt on my iron, and there has to be a way to get that mess off of there! Does anyone know a fast, easy, and relatively safe way to remove burnt felt off an iron? Yes, I am an idiot . . .

Don't know if it will remove burnt felt, but when I burn something on mine, I use toothpaste while the iron is a little warm and scrub it with one of those green scrubby thingies.
