Ice cube trays as candy molds.

I be a small town girl with no place in town to find candy mols, and i want to try it before i spend money on having them shipped to me. SO can i use an ice cube tray and a candy mold? And would i have to spary it with cooking spray frist if i did?

You know those new teflon ice cube trays that are bendy and rubberery? You can get them from Ikea and some little funky shops?? In that case you wouldn't have to use a release oil or anything. I find surfaces that don't have a porous surface are ok..

Cooking oil.. give it a whirl, I have no idea...

you don't want to use something to coat a mold, you will affect the texture and taste of the chocolate, well that is if you are talking chocolate. you can use lot of different things as a molds. the main thing to look for is a smooth surface, and somewhat flexible.

if you are talking about hard candies, i'm not sure.

I think Cat used some silicon ice molds to make chocolates in one of her how-to's. I was bought some silicon chocolate molds and i am sure you they are the same as the ice molds.

i think using those rubber ice cube trays would be a great idea.
have you checked everywhere for them? i know wal-mart has a great craft section and you might never know where those things turn up! i like cutting open those advent calendars you get at christmas and using the little plastic trays as molds.
