Decoration ideas for ship themed murder mystery party

My birthday is coming up(8th of October) and I'm having my party at home. It's going to be a murder mystery party(www.murdermystery.com.au) and the theme is Carribean Cruise. In the story line we go on the ship and at the end arrive at a beach (I think) so some of the costumes suggested are hawaiin, beach goer, high society passenger, sailor, pirate, etc. The company gave some ideas for decorations like: cocktails with umbrells(given to guests on entry), brown paper bags filled with sand and a tea light candle, gang plank, streamers/balloons/anything festive, deck chairs, potted palms, beach balls and blow up toys, flags, maps, old ropes, paper anchors, cargo/ luggage, portholes, etc. But I want more ideas of things I could buy, make or use. So got any ideas?

Another idea they gave was to put a tape outline of a body on the floor but how would you go about that? how would you get the tape to go in the right shape? is there something else I could maybe use instead?

when I was doing tape oulines on the floor I used masking tape. You get someone to lay on the floor, and you tape around them.

cut the tape into smaller peices, that works.

Yeah, I think masking tape would probably be the best stuff to use for that. It's not expensive, and it doesn't stick completely so you won't leave any marks on the flooring!

For some reason the sort of sea theme made me think of sea creatures or monsters, so you could have a giant octopus tentacle made out of the leg of some brightly coloured tights, stuff it, and add some of those little suction cup things as suckers.

You could have a big ships steering wheel as well (I've forgotten if there's a proper word for that lol) but that might be a bit difficult to make :\

And you could have drinks in coconut shells, that makes it more Carribean than just having them in a plain glass.

OHHHH! How about the clues being in a bottle, like a message in a bottle kind of thing? instead of bobbing for apples... you could bob for plastic bottles with the clues in them [since that wouldn't hurt your teeth like glass might].

I dont' know, I'm sick and on codeine and Im not thinking straight, lol.

And yea... instead of cutting the masking tape into small peices, you coudl just actually tape the whole thing around the person, and it will have little bumps on it from the curves, but who cares. Its all good Happy

I can't do the actual clue in the bottle as we have a host so I don't really know exactly what's going to happen but I will definately be using the message in a bottle for decoration-that'll look great and will be super easy to do! THANKYOU!!!!

well i don't know if you have ever been on a cruise, but on the one i went on,at every port, you would get your picture taken with a life save donut. You could make one of those.... as a matter of fact the life savor candies would be cute to have out in a bowl...... a fish bowl...

It seems to me chalk would be easier to do outlines, maybe a different color for each dead person, so you remember who got offed where. I don't know if it would be good on carpet. But any kind of tape is going to leave residue isn't it?

Anyway I was looking this morning and found this nautical themed room. I know it is cross stitching, but all you really need is the cute little designs.

By the way, I love the lifesaver idea.
