Happy Birthday

I guess I feel the need to share the birthday of my friend Matt. Matt would have been 30 years old today. He passed away last May after a very long fight with cancer.

He was my boyfriend's best friend and apart of our family. Our living room couch sags where Matt often passed out after a long night of drinking and a 3 am steak bbq. He loved vampire lore- even went to see the Twilight movies because they were vampire movies. He loved Diana Rigg and tea. His roommates purchased a cabinet for all of his tea and they put all of his tea in it and when he saw it he opened up the cabinet, decided there wasn't enough tea in it and went to the store to buy more.

He really was an amazing person. He was a far better person than I could ever be. I probably didn’t deserve to have him as a friend. I consider myself very lucky to have had the honor of having gotten to love him. I miss him a lot.

Aww. Happy birthday to him!
I know what it's like to miss people like that, so I'm here for you if you need support.

Bless you. He may not be with you physically but your memory of him is a warm feeling. I lost a friend a few years ago after he had heart surgery. I have good memories of our time doing a photography course together. I took a photo of him from behind and he stuck it on his wall because he liked to see what he looked like walking away....Lol. I bet you have lots of good memories like that too.

I light a candle for my close friends and family members that have passed over to have a bit of quiet reflection on how they made my life better for knowing them x

Thank you.

Jewish tradition does call for the lighting of a candle on the anniversary of a loved one's death. Matt wasn't religious but I'm sure he'll appreciate it just the same. Especially if its all gothy and on a candleabra.

See, there are things you can do that he'll definitely appreciate even though he doesn't have a physical presence. If he thought you were worthy of being his friend in life, he's probably with you in spirit wherever you are, ready to be the friend you need when you need it.

Us Pagans use candles for remembering our loved ones as well. Me and my fella are goth too so it's not that far away x
