Craft Rut!

Alrighty, I haven't ranted in a while, might as well...

First of all, i'm so busy I can barely breathe! (Mmk, maybe not THAT busy, but i'm a teenager, i'm allowed to exaggerate!). School, Theatre (I'm directing a one act play with very about 15 hyperactive middle schoolers), Chores, and Homework have officially claimed my life. I got this amazing book, and would love to craft more, but I have so little time. Saturdays are my only free days, and have dance half of the morning, so not even all day.

Secondly, I'm in a terrible craft rut! Right now i'm really only crafting for swaps, since I don't really have time to craft for fun (poo..). Anyways, I've really only been making plushies. I have created some new plushies of things I haven't made before, but that's not what I mean. All I sew is plushies! As cute, fun, and wonderful as they are, i'd love to include something other than plushies for once, but I can't think of what to make?

I made a cupcake bag before, but i'm looking for cute, preferably sewable, smaller crafts to include in swaps. Any help/ideas of what to make to get me out of my plushie rut? I'm open to any suggestions!

Wow, i'm dramatic and whiny, but that felt great. (:
*Heaves a big relieving sigh*

Hm, I once made a half-apron for a swap. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos and the swap got lost in the mail. Happy It was really cute, though! I used a black with white polka dots fabric for the main body, and the frilly trimming was red and white checked.

You can try to make an apron for yourself, if you are into that sort of thing. You could even make a cupcake applique and add it to a pocket or something! That would be super-cute.

You can also do a search right here for "sew" or "sewing," and see what comes up. I'm always astounded to see how quickly I get out of a rut when I do that. ;)

I'm currently planning on sewing an Advent calendar out of felt for Shlomi. Maybe something holiday-related can help you reinstate your craftiness? Happy

GOOD LUCK!!!! :-D

That's a fabulous idea! That could also be a great Christmas present for my Lady relatives (:

And an Advent Calendar? I LOVE Advent Calendars! Maybe some Holiday related stuff will spark creation. Thanks for you help! (:

This may sound crazy but bookmarks !
Create 2x8 inch pieces of art.You can either make paper Inchies and apply along the length.Or take a load of recycled text and create wordy ones.Just use colored paper, glue stick away onto a foundation then stitch away.
I've been in a bit of a rut recently and made 16 of these yesterday- great arty muse making.

I think applique pieces might be cool... Since some of them could be from your plushie patterns.

I find that going to the library and looking at magazines or craft books helps me get out of a rut. Just giving yourself a break from your current craft to look at other things.

Yeah, I find looking through magazines, other craft books, or other peoples work inspiring too. I've done a few appliques before, they're pretty fun. Thanks for the advice, always helpful (:

And Michelle, I do mostly use felt (Very easy to work with, comes in every color/pattern imaginable, love it!) So maybe a trip to the craft store for new fabric would spark creation?
