@ Erika B. Are you sure that it's HIS phone and not his parents that he was playing with? Because a four year old with a phone seems like a great stretch.

@Lindsey N. Yay! Grad 2011! I'm in the same boat as you. 6 year olds having phones? Thats bananas. I received my phone last year ( at the age of 16 ) under the condition that I pay for it. And, nobody in my family was allowed to have a job until 16. ( reason why is that my parents believe that you should worry about being a kid, because as soon as you start working, you'll work the rest of your life.) Only then was I allowed to get one, but it's my responsibility to pay my bills, etc.

@Creativemind, I don't know. The way I see it as when you a child at a young age and decide to keep it (mind you, i know a couple of girls who made the decision for adoption) you need to make the decisions for the good of your child. Even if you have a good support base from your family, you are a mother/father. I feel like the young parents that I do know that do shit are unresponsible. It's true that they aren't mature enough to probably handle the situation, but at a point they have to grow up to be.

@lolEffects: It's crazy that kids are getting "sexually active / aware" at such a young age. However, I do have to say that make up does play a very small part, but if you wear it it doesn't make you like them. Everything in moderation. If you cake your face on, then yes, you'll probably turn into that (obsessing with your look etc) I actually don't wear much make up at all. Winged liner, macara, and I shadow in my brows occassionally. It doesn't make me like them at all. If you choose not to be like them, then you won't. I personally don't think that girls in elementary school should be wearing make up anyway, but don't think that if you wear it, you'll turn prissy.

Jessi- Yeah, some girls do wear A LOT of makeup. Its just that makeup is pretty common in my school and I don't want people to think that I've turned into one of them. But thanks for making it not as bad as it sounds. Happy

yeah, these days they take it too far, when at 8 they start having sex. When I was 8 I was playing with dolls. I was always the nerdy one. still am-embrace it. But I remember the pressure then at 16 to have a bf, have sex. The whole shebang, but year dessing slutty ment you were slutty.

now they dress that way because its cool. I am glad my 8 year old neice acts like a 8 year old, she loved legos and hockey. not makeup and shopping. All the girls in her class wear revealing clothes and makeup.

hellooo parents, get involved.

it wont get better either. sadly hanna montana has proved that no matter how young you are you too can be
well. yah know.
my husband dosnt want children because of this little fact that the kids of today will be the failures of tomorrow and he dosnt wanna bring life into a world where a little girl knows more sexual crap then he does at 26.
i cantsay i blame him either. what a horrible mother id be if i let a kid come into this world. america needs to crack down on these things and fast.
1. take 15 and prego off the air and anything like that
2. actually teach kids in school that being smart is better that being "popluar"
3. Stop putting football and cheerleading above math and reading.
4.Crack down on laws concerning minors having kids and sex with adults
5. Stop letting kids under 12 wear make up in school.

i think it will help if they do these, but they wont.

Honey it's not just America, it's like this in a lot of Westernised cultures.

I went to school in the 80's and there were some cliques that did some unruly things, not many pregnancies but there were a few including my cousin who is younger than me. Fortunately, she graduated and plus went into the service, so she did good with a good husband and more kids.

Anywho, didn't notice a lot of make up wearing either and back then, it was pagers instead of cell phones, I never wanted one and wouldn't have gotten it anyway if I did. My parents didn't have one, so they weren't gonna get us kids one. My childhood was fairly cool; I saw my friends practically every day because they lived just down the street, and we weren't a bad crowd. We'd play games and jump double dutch so we weren't a troublesome bunch.

@ lolEffects, let's say someone gives her a baby to take care of for a day and see if she doesn't change her mind. Babies are cute and cuddly, but it takes a lot to take care and raise one. When she realizes that, she may think twice.

@ Jessi, Yeah I get what you're saying but having a kid makes you a parent, not so much a grown up. It forces you to grow up i.e. be mature and start making responsible decisions, but there is a difference between the two. Either way it's a little sad, especially for those who don't have a support group or someone they can go to for help.

@Luna: To be honest, I'm a fan of 16 and Pregnant. It does show their struggles with motherhood. I highly doubt that anything will change. The way socities are progressing, I doubt that we will change for the better.

While yes, that show shows some life lessons it is making sex at 16 cool. even by not meaning to. Thats the point, things that grown ups see as ok and shrug off children see as trends and copy it..

I didn't have a cell phone until I was 20. o.o

All the things you're all describing are the reasons that I do NOT want kids. I don't want to be held responsible for my children after the OTHER children have peer-pressured them into this shizznit. -.-

They don't NEED them at that age!!! The entire idea honestly makes me sick. Don't parents understand that their childrens' brains are developing??! Cell phone usage has been linked to CANCER, for heaven's sake!

Shlomi says that in Israel, children are told upon being born, "Mazal tov! Here is a mobile (cell phone)!" -.-

I'm your age (a high school senior) and I feel like our generation is being ruined. I went to the school clinic today because I had a headache and the first thing they asked me was if I was pregnant. I felt offended because not every 17 year old with a boyfriend has a baby on the way.

I usually benefited from the moronic things other kids my age did. Like in high school guys like throwing pennies and nickles at eachother in the hallway, which can hurt if it's thrown right. I picked up all their thrown change because they obviously didn't want it. Over time I saved up enough for a bus ticket to New York City.

I want children, not any time soon of course. And I'll teach them (hopefully) well, and I'll try to point out how freakin' stupid kids seem to be. Having sex may seem like it isn't much (now-a-days) but you have to be willing to take on the consequences if something happens.

I just hope that my son/daughter will grow to be smart. The way my generation acts doesn't make me not want to have children, but to have them and teach them right. To possibly help save THEIR generation.
