My dog is really sick.

My dog Scarlett has pancreatitus, it's serious she's been kept over night at the vets for two nights now and she's in a lot of pain. I don't really know why I'm posting this but I'm devastated and can't talk to my partner about it as he's just as distraught as and I'm not sure that if you're not a doggy person that those people tend to understand.

I so badly want her to get better she's only 5 and I've looked after her well, life seems so unfair at the moment.

Sorry just needed to have a little vent of emotion.

Well yes she is being treated at the moment, on drips and being fed all the minerals that were missing due to the illness, but she isn't responding as well as they'd like and they're a bit worried there may be a blockage. It's just such a serious illness even in humans! It's the waiting that's the worse, I'm on tenterhooks everytime I get a phonecall.

Hey,
If you need someone to talk to send me a message. I lost my dog a week ago, so I understand completely.
I really hope your dog gets better though.
Melvin xx

I'm so sorry. Its such a horrible thing when its one of your pets. You feel so helpless. Hopefully though the fact that he is young will be a plus and he'll start to respond to the treatment. x

Having a dog, that young, in that position is really difficult. I can understand how nerve racking it is. If you like to read, perhaps the book Rescuing Sprite would be a good one for you. I love that book...

Thanks for all the kindness it really means alot to me in this hard time.
Last night the outcome was looking bleak but with the morning came a little bit of light because she has for the first time in five days had a little something to eat and not brought it back up. Fingers crossed it's a small step to recovery. She's just honestly one of my best friends and I care about her so deeply.

The Vet says if she goes 24hrs without sickness and begins to eat and drink they will start to reduce the treatment and prepare for her to come home. Let's hope she makes it.

when my dog was ill it was so hard but even though its horrible to think there lying in hospital its always whats best for the animal and brittish vets are truly dedicated people who will take great care of her hang on in there honey it is so tough to see a dog ill coz they are not just pets they are members of the family. I hope it all works out for you she sounds like a strong little trouper !

I feel so sorry for you going through all this, Minnie. It's really awful when your pet is ill, as they depend on you for everything and you feel so helpless.
But if she's starting to eat, or even if she just drinks a little, that's good news. It's amazing how dogs can recover from the most serious illnesses when they get the right treatment, and once she gets back home to familiar surroundings it will be much better. I've spent many nights over the years sitting up with one or other of my dogs or my cat, spoon feeding them drops of water and nursing them back to health, so I know just how you feel.
I really hope she has a good recovery, and comes back home to you soon. *big hugs*

pets are people too !!! They just don't have the ability to let us know when there's a problem. I've been fighting it out with a kitten that will not poop at my house for 24 hours now, but he finally did. Your baby is gonna get better I can feel it in my bones !! Sending lots of love, warm fuzzy feel good vibes and tons of kisses. Let us know how it goes.
Blessed Be.

I wish your dog all the health in the world. Hopefully his youth will benefit him in the fight Happy

I just lost my own cat to kidney failure not two months ago now, so I can understand how stressed out you must be. Best wishes.

Hi Minne. So sorry to hear your dog is so unwell. We have a rescue dog. She old, grey, loosing her teeth, but she is so much a part of our family. It's really hard to see a friend suffer. I had a cat that was at the vets for 3 days after his pelvis was broken. It was a close call as if he hadn't managed to wee it would have been bad news. I have never been so excited over cat wee. Sounds like your dog is getting the best help and I'm glad to hear he is eating a little. If it's any help I have treated humans with the same condition when nursing and it is a distressing condition. The vet will be resting his gut to help it recover, hence the drips to replace salts and fluids. The fact that he is eating a little is good news as it means the gut it being stimulated and if he isn't sick it means the blockage has reduced. It will take time. Big {HUGS}

Hey Minnie, sorry to hear that your dog is unwell. I get how you feel, I put up a post on here not long ago about my kitty cat she was drinking a lot more, we took her to the vet and found out that she had problems with her liver function, there's nothing they can do for her and she will eventually kill her, it could be months, it could be a few years. I took it quite badly, especially since it was about a week or two after my Granddad had died, but she's 14 so at least I can be grateful she's had a long and happy life, it's even sadder that your doggy is quite young. However I'm very pleased that she's gradualy geting better. My fingers are crossed for you and your dog!!
