Earthquake Haiti

My rant about this seems to stem from the lack of concern people seem to have over this, this poor Carribean counrty has been suffering for many years, and the recent earthquake that has happened only three days ago, why my crafty friends, have you not shown any concern over this?

I posted a prayer for Haiti as soon as it happened and have donated aid, I also donate to Doctors without boarders and canada red cross, and UNCIEF.

I was expecing more posts about this unfornate incedent,

it is rather sad and I worry for my fellow newfoundlanders who are currenty missing in Haiti(there are 11 newfoundlanders still uncounted for)

time is running out for those buried, and aid help is very slow due to the fact that the airports have been damaged. Ships from the Canadian military have been sent with aid and supplies.

what is your country doing to help?

I don't know about others but I think I've found this so hard to take in because of the sheer scale of it. I reminds me of the Tsunami a few years. Its horrific and I'm still not totally sure what the UK is doing but I know that Oxfam are already involved.

it does remind me of the Tsumai, I still donate some money to charities that are helping the locals over there.

Its so soul crushing, I posted a digital art peice here called a prayer for Haiti and one person asked me what was going on, the media coverahe on this is huge. It is on many major news sutes, on the radio, blogs, facebook and twitter.

I can't donate alot, I gave $5 to Red Cross and Doctors without borders, but those 5 dollars can buy food, clothes or make shelter.

It's not that people aren't concerned, perhaps they choose not to show it through a craft site. As you say it is everywhere, twitter, facebook all the news, radio etc and maybe people are using those areas to show their concern.
There are many ways to donate, even via text messaging in the U.S.
People do care, they just aren't shouting about it. I donate to all kinds of charities but I don't feel the need to broadcast it. It's like recycling, I do it, but it's not something I brag about.
No offense.

It's absolutely soul numbing what happened in Haiti, my heart goes out to everyone in the country. I think it's great that people speak about it, the more info out there the better the chances are of getting more donations.

Crafthope is an etsy store that is taking donations of crafted items now, 100% of all proceeds go to Doctors without boarders for Haiti. Since we are a community of crafters it wouldn't cost us much to donate to this worthy cause.

I have seen people on here show concern over school shootings, fires and other disasters. It just struck me as odd that no one was writing about Haiti, there are so many affected by this. If not the people in Haiti, people around the world who have family and friends who are now missing

When we heard about it,me and my friends talked a lot about it.a whole night.I just saw in the news a man who pulled his own wife out of the ruins, she was already dead and they where just married a couple of weeks ago.It was so sad,I just cant even imagine how horrible that was.I dont know what Serbia is doing to help,I wont be surprised if nothing.Im not waching local news, only Hungarian and Croatian.
The reason I didnt write anything is what Laurel is saying.

I'm like Laurel and tend not to tell everyone, I regularly donate unwanted items (which I always seem to have) to the North London Hospice charity shop near me, but I don't tell everyone that. It hasn't helped with me being UBER busy getting ready for exams that I haven't had much of a chance to do ANYTHING. I only found out about this yesturday.

Not sure what the UK is doing, but if oxfam are involved I shall buy and donate stuff there to help them raise money for Haiti.

I also like Craftalicious' idea of making stuff or buying stuff for that craft website that donates its proceeds to Doctors without borders, that sounds like an awesome and lovely idea!!

I know it sounds unbelieivable but I wouldn't be too harsh with people that don't know about it or know that much. When the Tsunami happened one of my colleagues wife contacted her family in Malaysia as she was really worried for them and they didn't know about it. I think the news coverage in the west is massive and not every country has the same.
I also agree with Laurel, I do bits and bobs for charities (mainly homeless and mental health) but I don't go on about it. I like to keep it private.

I agree arty, not all the coverage is the same.

I am going to look at that site now

After watching the news I'm saddened to hear about the gang warfare that is beginning to take place amoungst the youths in haiti, wielding machete's and god know's what else fighting over aid supplies. I understand and sympathise with the majority of people that are not acting in this way. It seems such a shame that gangs are now increasing the bloodshed as they are all in the same situation that they should be helping eachother.

That crafting website craftalicious supplied looks absolutly amazing and I would love to get involved in making stuff for them to sell in aid of this situation...

I heard that too, because of all the destruction in Haiti is hard to fly aid in, it has to be shipped, therefore takes a long time to arrive.

In the news there was a story about a flight that left Haiti just before the earthquake, when they landed they found out what had happened.

Canada has also lifted some refurgee laws to speed up the process so relatives of Haitians living in canada can come live with them in Canada.

I wish I could help, but I have no income whatsoever, and would donate a craft to the etsy site, but I can't afford shipping and whatnot. I know one thing I can do, and that's lift up prayers.
