Haha oh well, freebies are always good. Do you know if the woman got fired? Can you shop online with it so you don't have to go back in?

I am sure if the manager was fake(I know what you mean its a kinda forced understanding) they don't want you spreading bad news about them. If you really want to make an impact go above the manger and email HR, because they really make things happen.

and if she was so sorry she wouldn't bring up shopping at the store

Wow, that's great what you did, you rock!

But (at the risk of getting some angry replies) isn't it a bit stereotype american to expect compensation?

I'm with you Marieke, screw compensation, if it was a fake apology or whatever and the woman has had other complaints, she needs to be fired. I would rather have that happen than get compensation. The woman was wrong plain and simple. They are paying her to be rude to ppl, and I'm sorry but basically bribing you to keep quiet about it. I understand your condition won't allow you to be more indignant with those people, but it's just not right for you or anybody else to be treated that way.
And I also agree with Michelle, I would make a big fuss about it going to the highest person there is to get the politically correct action taken. This all "MAY" be just a minor incident, but this is happening too much every where where people think they can treat others any kind of way and get away with it. What I have to say to people like that, what goes around comes around. And to others out there reading this, I don't care what you say about me, I have a clear conscience and I stand by what I say.

I wouldn't even bother to take it up that high and go to the HQ/big boss. If people are rude to me I just tell them this: " if your life is so empty that being rude to me is the highlight of your day, or maybe even your week, I adjudge you this pleasure gladly. (not sure if using the term "adjudging" is correct english here but you get the picture)

It has a huge effect on people. Usually they shut up or stammer a few words. It pisses them off that I'm saying this without getting angry, just using a friendly but slightly condescending voice.

Also great: if someone is cursing at you and calling you names reply in a very decent language saying you find the cursing and name calling very inpolite. Because it's a reaction most people don't expect, it confuses them a little and then you walk away dignified.

I wasn't actually expecting anything >> I know she just gave it to me so I'd disappear so eh its a free outfit in the end lol

but yeah if it ever happens again like at any other store I think I might take it to hq like I had to about this stupid roll of toilet paper
as it had dust in between the ply's of sheets and metal flakes in it.

They're investigating it currently

Well to each his own, and yeah Marieke that's kind of like something I always had reminded to me about people who got irate when I was in the retail business. Say something in a polite manner and add "have a nice day", that burns em up. They called it "kill 'em with kindness". That usually shut them up and they would then look ashamed and just leave. That was of course the other way around, where I was the little helper and they were a rude customer.

Yeah just being polite really gets people. I had this horrible customer one time and she kept interrupting me when I was counting and saying I was doing stuff wrong, so I got flustered and she started yelling and threatening to tell my boss about me. And obviously I hadn't done anything wrong, so I just kinda walked her to the door and went "Okay, she's right over there, have a nice day!" so was basically chucking her out of the shop but in this really polite way and she didn't know what to do because I wasn't scared of her.

Ouch that's rubbish about the toilet paper!

I might have to use that trick when my sisters being a cow >> lol she'd hate it if I didn't react the way she wanted

(why haven't I thought of that before lol)

I've worked in retail before and yeah it sucks that we're taught that the customer is always right *gonks* like I understand it in a way
but we're all people (or we should be) and should treat each other with respect whatever the situation.

Kitten yeah pretty much lol like they called back yesterday and said its what's called ground dust, and I'm like and the metal flakes? oh well we
didn't see any *sighs* I'm like I sent it in the sample, and I've got my own sample as well I can get tested independently.

And suddenly they're like oh don't worry we'll look into it further and I'll call you back by the end of the day.

Anyways true to their word they called back, They said they were extremely sorry because of our inconviencience (sp) I said to them well my fiancee
was most put out as he had to report to his doctor that his asthma was playing up worse.

And he replied with well customer feedback is appreciated blah blah and we'll send you out a supply of toilet paper for a month lol

so in a way I think its pretty funny cause I wasn't expecting it but at least they treated me seriously

Haha I wouldn't trust toilet paper for them again, free or not!

See I've worked in two shops, and we're always told to try and satisfy the customer, but our manager will always back us up if they're being a bitch. Like you say, it doesn't matter who's who in that situation, it's the fact that we should be decent human beings! Doesn't happen that often though.

yes, to treat with respect and to be respected

I always avoid certain shops in which I'd feel judged I think I'm just really self consiouse like some
staff are nice but others just seem to look down on me or whatever (it could just be in my head most of the time though lol)

I always try to remain polite but when people over step the line I'm just like gah never going back there again *shudder*

and yeah kinda worried about the company now however we'll test it out for the month of free loo paper lol

no its not, some people just don't want to be there, thats why we get that vibe. Why bother working there if you are going to be sour all day long
