nestle

I used to get ticked at Nestle and then I saw the bigger problem which is the African government not having any sort of a health and safety program. The government openly denies Aids or that any education is needed in treating the spread. Really, with that sort of mentality does the fact that a big fat corporation swooping in and profiting off of ignorance surprise you?

Then you look at American hospitals and the "breastfeeding success kits" and lack of education about breastfeeding being the very best thing for your baby and we are a bad water system away from having the same situation here (US) as they do in Africa.

If you really want to make a difference get involved in La Leche League International. They travel everywhere educating not only women but families about breastfeeding. It's a NFP organization run by Nursing Mothers and their only mission is to promote and educate about breastfeeding.

I agree that you should be angry, but now you need to channel that energy and make a difference.

Fair enough, boycott if you want, and god knows I do boycott some stuff like Body Shop. But I just want to make sure you know you're not fixing anything by doing that. Boycotting as a form of protest does NOTHING, it's only to alleviate your own guilt. Like I said, I boycott some things, but it just really annoys me when people think that they're saving the world by not eating Weetos or something.

Yeh I'm vegetarian, so I feel like a hypocrite if I 'support' any sort of cruelty to people or humans but it's so hard to know and avoid these things and no matter what we do, these animals still die, these people still suffer. And there will always be people who make these things happen because of money. (However, Farmers work really hard and don't get enough profit from it, it's the way the whole system is thats why animals suffer anyways...)

Body Shop's bought by L'Oreal now, so even though the Body Shop itself doesn't test on animals, their profits go toward L'Oreal. It's more the hypocrisy in that instance which annoys me.

The shop Lush had a lot to do with the body shop in the beginning and they were thinking of buying the body shop but the owner shoved the offer back in Lush's owners face because they had a fall out years ago. This is in the Body Shop or Lush thread too, or both! with a link to an article.

There are tons and tons of companies that test on animals Happy

Yeah unfortunately it's almost impossible to avoid it. And even if that company doesn't test on animals now, it doesn't mean that they didn't before, and the ingredients came about after being tested on animals. I normally stick to Superdrug and Naked though, as all their products say suitable for vegetarians and against animal testing on them.

Even if a product itself isn't tested on animals sometimes there are ingredients or chemicals in it that were tested on animals once upon a time so that people knew they were safe for humans. Which is a bit of a cop out really, if you're going to say something hasn't been tested on animals then the whole product and everything in it shouldn't have been tested on animals, not just the final product itself.
