Hello, World!

Hi,
My name is Melissa. I'm originally from Jacksonville, FL, moved to Troy, NY (Albany area) for college, stayed for grad school and some jobs, and then I moved down to Richmond, VA where I've been for the last 4 years. I love to travel. I've been to London, Paris, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, and 38 out of the 50 states (including Alaska). Oh and crafts :-P I'll pretty much try anything. I learned to knit on a trip to Maine when we went into a yarn store and my mom said, "you should learn to knit!" After much trial and error, and a little help from a guest at the inn, I learned to knit. After that, I taught myself how to crochet out of a magazine because I wanted to make a skirt in it. My in-laws bought me a sewing for my birthday my last year of grad school. I was supposed to be writing my thesis but I may have snuck over to the sewing machine a couple of times. My husband knows more about it than I do. I've been making jewelry since I was a kid. And of course, I learned to cook and bake with my mom and grandma. That's about it. What's your story?

I'm Peg. I was born and raised on the Iowa side of the Mississippi and when I met and married by husband I moved just across the river to the Illinois side. I live at the point of the Mississippi where it is the only section to run east to west. I graduated with my degree in teaching with a specialization in children who need extra help in reading and math. I worked for a little while and then became a stay home mom when our son was born. My husband and I then decided to homeschool him and that's where I spent the next 18+ yrs. Once he was older, I began to pick up crafting again for something for myself to do. I have always been creative and always crafting something or reading. My favorite book genres are mysteries and horror (the scarier the betterHappy ) In 2007, I took an interest in paper crafting and have been on many design teams for different companies until recently when I decided to take a break from the teams. 5 years ago, I began working for Create for Less as their card making and scrapbooking contributor. In 2014, Cat asked me to be a guest designer for Cut Out + Keep and since then I have by a Craft Test Sidekick and writer for Technique Tuesday. Now, I will be becoming more involved with many other things here. I love being here and writing tutorials and working on other fun adventures. You will often find me creating a card or piece of jewelry. There's not many times that my desk doesn't have some project in the works on it. My husband and son are very important to me and we spend a lot of family time together, too. They play video games or a card game called Magic together while I work on something. My husband is, also, a certified barbeque judge so we spend some time during the year going to contests. My son does a weekly video game podcast with a friend of his and writes for a gaming website, as well as, being a forum mod for one of the big gaming companies while also studying journalism.
