Sewing your own wardrobe

I've always wanted to have a wardrobe full of my own creations and I've already made quite a few pieces. It's so handy being able to make matching items. Today I made a star belt to wear with my star skirt.



Anyone else attempting to sew their own wardrobe?

very cute Happy This is my dream! Knitting I can do for others, but I really want to be able to make clothes for me. I haven't attempted anything other than altering a too long coat, too icky dress.

I have some ideas of what I want(flared cords!) but I don't really have the cash for fabric atm.

I did just yesterday come across a site that is about sewing your own wardrobe and they offer patterns for free and you can alter them or make them as is and post them on the site and also sell them on your etsy! As they are not copyrighted.

I'm attempting to only have things I absolutely love in my wardrobe. Not one single "eh that's ok"

A large part of that is sewing my own clothing. This is some fabric for that cause:

That looks awesome, really well made.

When you first saw that fabric, did you visualize it looking like the waistcoat? Because sometimes I look at fabric and I can instantly see what I'm going to make from it!

Thank you Cat and Opposites-Girl ( I was gonna call you O-G but that sounded weird)

This one doesn't really count for knowing what it would be right off. I had that fabric in my stash for about a year I think. But I saw this cute vest on a girl and just had to make one. When I went digging through my pile I saw it and went...Yes, this is it.
My fabric pile of doom is mostly from this crazy shop in GA where the stuff is $1.50 a pound twice a year. I just go and get whatever is awesome and figure out to do with it later.

Now when I am in a regular store, yes I look I fabric and know what it must be. It's like it tells me without even thinking on it. I always though Home Depot was the same thing for men.

I'm getting a sewing machine for xmas (infact I sorta already have it it is sitting next to my computer I just not allowed to touch it till xmas)
And I start attending a dress making class at the start of febuary. I'm really looking forward to it I have so many ideas floating arounf in my head

This one will be in my closet when I get around to making one for myself. This one is I made for my mom. It's a bath kimono. The sleeves aren't showing up but they are nice full rectangles.

Wow that looks great =)

All I do is customise clothes. I have a habit of sewing "Nny" in big letters on stuff. I bought a plain black dress for £3 recently, sewed Nny in big felt letters along the bottom and put a felt heart on the front. Next thing to do is customise a jumper I bought - it's kinda pale blue so not my normal kinda thing, but I'm gonna sew some cupcake buttons on it and ribbon and my name. I also might cut the bottom off - it's one of those long ones with the ribbing below your bum, which looks great on skinny girls but I'm curvy so it just makes me look big

I don't know how much I'd like to make my own wardrobe so much as have someone else make my wardrobe for me! ;D

In any case, I'd have to actually learn how to sew. :3

I need some help picking out which side to use for this vest:

I am about to begin work on another vest and I thought I made up my mind to use the shiny side but now looking at it the dull side might be the one to go with. It shows more detail in photos.

Keep in mind I plan on wearing this with jeans. But I also cosplay and this can end up in a costume down the road.

What's your pick?
