Work Dress Code Help Needed!

I'm starting my job as door lady for a semi-formal restaurant tomorrow night and I honestly have no idea what I'm supposed to wear.. Any advice?

Sneak by and check or just ask ;)

I did ask and the boss said just dress nicely and not slutty. "Nicely" is extremely vague though...

Wear what you would wear to a nice dinner party. Try a blouse, nice pants/skirt, shoes (no sneakers), and maybe some jewelry. Catch a glimpse at other employees to see what they wear. But it would be better to overdress than underdress.

Sorry about the double post. Don't know what happened there.

I think the typical dress for a hostess is either black slacks and a white blouse, black pants and a black blouse, or a black skirt and a white/black blouse. Very simple and not over-done.

oh and I'd wear ballet flats as you'll be on your feet all night and as long as you don't have to go into the kitchen they should be fine. If you do however find yourself going into the kitchen a lot (like if part of your job is to bus the tables, which is typical) then you'll need to invest in non slip shoes that they sell specifically for resturant empolyees.

Yup- i've done this type of job and its a blouse and knee length skirt- also congrats on your new job! I just started a new job too and am trying to make an effort with my clothes as I sit right by my department bosses now :S It's really annoying having the dress nice all the time when I just wanna throw on a stripey jumper and my yellow sneakers!

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to go with a black blouse and black knee length skirt with black pumps. I'll add a bit of jewellery but not too much.

I'll ask my boss tonight if what I'm wearing is fine, then I know what I can wear in the future.

Okay so I decided rather to go with black pinstripe pants with the blouse. What do you guys think of this? Do you think it's okay? Sorry for the crappy phone mirror pics.

Here's the pattern on the pants:

It's about an hour before I have to go to work.

Looks good to me! I have a feeling your boss isn't too picky about what you wear if he just said to dress 'nicely'.

I changed the accessories a bit before work so that I had a bit of colour with my outfit. He said it was completely fine and I met the other door lady so I saw what she wears. Now at least I have an idea for next time =]

I'd say what your wearing is pretty much spot on to what I would expect a waitress to wear. Formal but still comfortable as you'll certainly be doing a lot of running around. You look great!!
