Did anyone take part in Earth Hour?

I did!
If you haven't heard of it, well basically, it's a set hour where everyone turns off their lights and as many appliances as possible. Last year Sydney came up with the idea of it but everyone liked the idea of it so much that this year it has become a global movment. It was held 8pm 29th March which was yesterday. It's basically just a symbolic gesture to show that people do want to act on climate change and it's showing us how simple it is to turn off lights and appliances when not in use.

We started our Earth hour a bit late at 8:15pm but we still did it for an hour. We lit a whole bunch of tealight candles and put them in dishes in the lounge room and kitchen. We basically just sat and watched TV for the hour, we had to have something on anyway because my brother is disabled and has autism and he has to have something to do.

My brother,Roy also started to blow out all the candles! He associates candles with birthday parties where you're meant to blow them out, so that is what he did, I then had to relight them all again! He did actually turn on one of the lights(which we turned off again, soon after) as he was trying to look at the cover of one of his favourite DVD's which he couldn't see properly coz it was dark, so there is him turning on the light just to stare at the picture on the dvd cover- it was really funny to watch!

If you did take part in Earth Hour, how did you go and what did you do?

Iceland wasn't taking part as far as I know and I had meant to do it, but started making a big dinner and then forgot, but we use very little elec anyway and rarely have our lights switched on. I feel bad though, I was going on at my UK mates to take part all day yesterday lol

I did. I was watching the kids chioce awards with the lights off. My dad was the only one who didn't because he was IN THE KITCHEN WITH THE LIGHTS ON THE TV ON AND HIS COMPUTER ON. It just isn't right.

we put the clocks forward an hour lol I've never heard of it before. Some newspaper or website published a report saying that even if we all cut down on electricity and stuff we'd stop global warming by 7 minutes. I do really care about our planet but we aren't gonna get anywhere with China and India becomming more westernised, they want our cars and our appliances. I don't see why they shouldn't though, what we have has made our lives easier, but it will add to the damage. Also China is using a lot of coal still. I'm sorry to put a downer on it but I really don't think we're going to be able to stop our own destruction. I want to live in Sweden or somewhere that's 'greener' cuz i bet the air is a lot purer.

So in the metro (free paper on the bus) they had a bit about Earth Hour and London was still lit up despite people turning off power for an hour and other cities world wide turning stuff off. I didn't even know it was happening!

Google did it!

I didn't know when it was...

Was there anything about how it went? Did it save any power?

There was a similar UK thing a few weeks back that was a complete flop..

I didn't know that it was happening either, I heard all about it after it happened, but I would have liked to take part. Are they planning to do it again?
