HELP with a Kitten !!

ok friends, I need help ASAP, I'm worried.

I friend aquired a kitten, maybe 3 weeks old, not sure, eyes are open but no teeth. She's had it for only 2 days and said it hasn't pooped since she's had it. I took it this morning and have tried EVERYTHING I can think of, he seems to be eating well, nursing from a bottle with suppliment milk, he's also peeing like a champ but no poopes. I've rubbed his belly and bottom with a warm wet cloth and he farts a little but no poopy. I'm not sure if he was getting enough attention before my friend rescued him. His mother was killed by a fox. Anyone have any suggestions??

I am not a vet, but when my cat was sick a few months back, the vet first thought she had a blockage in her intestines(as she wasn't pooping either), so she gave her liquid paraffin and we just squirted some into her gob twice a day. The vet gave it to us for free, as it was just a small container. Maybe you could try that?

3 weeks old is really young to be away from its mother...are you feeding it the correct formula, available from a vet, suitable for its age?
This may sound gross, but the mother cat stimulates defaecation by licking the kitten's anus , so perhaps massage that area with warm damp cotton wool?
I wouldn't advise liquid paraffin for a kitten that young. If nothing happens soon, best see a vet.....

I agree with Nora 3 weeks is very young to be away from the Mother 4-6 weeks is the recommended age. Basically kittens 'poop' like Nora says by 'licking the kitten's anus' so you need to feed kitty then burp him by petting him, then when he's burped get some damp cloth or paper towel and rub him in that area at least three times a day! The mother Cat usual does all this but it's sad she was killed by a fox!

If he doesn't go soon you'll probably need to find a vet better to be safe than sorry! Especially if he lost his Mummy and you don't know his history before he was rescued. Kittens should go at least once a day... so good luck and let us know how he get's on! I hope he's ok!

Thanks, yes he's way to young to be away from his mama, but mama was killed, so I'm doing my best. I'm trying the warm rag on the bum thing and I'm using the correct formula. If no poop by tomorrow morning we're seeing the vet.

Good point, Michelle...kittens need wormed with Drontal or similar at 4 weeks old, then every 3 weeks till 16 weeks old. It might also need flea treatment , depending on what environment it came from.
You're doing really well with it, keep up the good work!
