My School Leaver Book!

Most people at my school do a leavers book type thing for when they leave school

This June I will be leaving my secondary school (im in England) where ive been for the past 5 years..

I want to do a leavers book, with photos and memories and writing from other people in, and would like to start soon

But the problem is I dont have lots of photos! I can scav a few off my friend, who took more pictures from the middle couple of years, and i might be able to get one or two from my old tutor of me and my class in Year 7, i have some of my last year from after i got a digital camera, but there are so many gaps!

I will have a few photos and other bits and pieces, but im not sure how to go about asking other people to write in my leavers book, and whether i will even be able to fill the thing!

If anyone has any advice on any of the above or has suggestions for the layout and colours, cool fonts, backgrounds or anything else you could help me with i would be very grateful!

Happy

We had one in year 11 - it was a disaster. Typically they have school photo's of all the people in your year, with their names underneath, along with group photo's of you and your friends (if you want them) - all these photos are typically taken by the school some months or weeks before you leave.

Ours had NO group photos, everyone in the year had an individual photo done but only half of them were put in the book (my individual photo was NOT in there, plus many of my friends) and printed on NORMAL paper (not even bound together nicely) in black and white. Plus there were not enough copies to go around for the entire year.

Unless you talk to the head of your year and get a little committe together then there is pratically no point.

Sorry to sound harsh, it's a lovely idea, but speak to people about it... try and get people involved if you want all the year to have one. If you want one for just you and your friends then make a little scrap book, borrow photos from your friends and scan them, so you can make copies for you and your friends and scrapbook them, so then your friends can sign your books. Coz that way you could put stuff in like a memory book, train tickets from an awesome day out and you could write the story of your lil adventure.

Sorry my post is all higgledy-piggledy!!!!

we make our own here, the school doesnt produce ones for us. its like a scrapbook but for each of us individually if we want to do one, and we just put our own photos of ourselves and friends in our own books, and then get as many people as possible to write in our books to remember each other by..

not sure if i made it clear in my original post! Happy

If you are on facebook and your school pals are you could always see what photo's they have in their albums. I would suggest getting a small book of coloured paper to get autographs and messages from school pals so that you can rip them out and stick them in your book later. Just in case someone decided to write something you arn't happy about in your book. That way youcan choose how you want it to look and plan it out when you know what you have to put in it. My daughters school let them write all over there school shirts on their last day.

That's a good idea about the coloured paper, that way you can choose what you do/don't want and you can design your book in the way you want, rather then everyone having the same looking book. Yeah we didn't really sign eachothers books, we just had a book with photo's of people in our year, we signed eachothers shirts, I think I still have mine XD

If you took trips anywhere, you can cut up and use the free travel brochures. I do it when I'm on vacation, I save them as I go places then use them to embellish my scrapbook. You could also use magazines to remember the cool trends of the time or newspaper clips of certain events that stood out.

yeah, definitely do it on a team! and start early, it takes a long time! i was involved in the team for it when we graduate. here in germany it´s mostly common to make a whole "newspaper" for graduation. everyone got a site with comments from other people, answer questions which were built up by the team, have a new photo and a baby photo. group photos of the courses with funny articles, comics, votings for students and teachers (such as biggest alcoholic, nerd, best teacher etc.) quotes from funny moments in courses... so, it´s not that boring as only looking to portrait photos and a name, it´s so much fun to read in it after years because of this hilarious stories and photos in there!

is it like a year book? at our school we have a yearbook staff which is a bunch of students that come together and make it. anyone can buy them

When I left secondary school and 6th form there weren't any books, we just bought our own and asked our friends to write in it.
Simple and effective, though I would recommend one where you can remove the pages if someone draws/writes something rude, or if someone you don't really like writes in it.

I think it's a great idea. Instead of having a year book, at my school we sign each other's school shirt. You could do that to and hang the shirt up in your room!
