Sergers! Any techniques to share?

I recently bought a 3/4 serger, and I love it to death. I never thought I could use such a complicated machine-- but now that I've gotten comfortable with it, I would like to know some techniques and tricks that I can do.

I know the basic stitch--overcasting seams, how to ruffle (with the ruffling foot), and a rolled hem.

I would love to know techniques that more experienced people use!

I'm not beyond those but I suggest getting some scrap fabric and going through your manuel on how to use different settings and see what your machine can do.

I also suggest keeping your machine really clean and well oiled or it will get all tangled.

well, i never thought about any more special techniques you can do with a serger. you named the basic ones and if somebody on here knows any special things you can do with a serger i´m curious too!! the only thing i coud think of now, my machine has something like a fake coverlock stitch but i didn´t figure out how it works yet because everytime i try it, it finish the edge of the fabric but it is supposed to not sew the edge but in the middle of the fabric... btw, what is a ruffling foot? i never saw that, i ruffle with different tensions on the threads.

It's an extra foot that came with my serger that ruffles the fabric and attach it to your piece at the same time. I was experimenting with different tensions too, so I'm not sure if the foot does all the work or if my thread tensions were the correct settings, but it's awesome either way!
