Tools you never knew you couldn't live without until you got one!

When you go to haberdashery/fabric/craft shop you are greeted with walls/shelves of gadgets and gizmos. How do you decide which you need and which you want? (Apparently there's a difference!)
I just managed to make my first straight hem - just by purchasing the simple little gadget a SEWING GAUGE!
Any gizmos you sew-ers can safely say has revolutionised your projects?
(or even non-sewists!)

Never mind revolutionising my projects, my Crop-A-Dile revolutionised my friends social life!!
The straps on her new night-out-dancing shoes were kinda uncomfy so we just cut them off, punched a row of holes along the top of the heelcup bit & threaded through with ribbon, tied it in a big bow at the front and TADA!! awesome and very comfy new shoes Happy

oh, there are many! the first tool i ever bought were variable pliers for holes or riveting or punch in buttons/eyelets.
a thing i thought i would never use was a thimble! i had to buy one when i started my seamstress apprenticeship, started using it and it was amazing! when you have to stitch 10 buttonholes in a row you know what i mean...
not exactly a tool, but my serger made many things easier!
and, a really good dressmaker shear and a pince-nez!
